Assignment Background
The search for a Chief Financial Officer for a fast-growing crypto company required a nuanced approach, balancing traditional financial expertise with a deep understanding of the digital assets space. The client was looking for a strategic partner to lead financial operations, support fundraising efforts, and manage regulatory and reporting obligations in a rapidly evolving industry. Given the pace of growth and the complexity of the sector, it was critical to identify someone who could operate at both strategic and operational levels.
The Search
We began by mapping out the talent landscape across both traditional finance and leading digital asset firms, focusing on candidates with proven experience in managing finance functions in high-growth, regulated environments. Key selection criteria included experience with venture-backed businesses, digital asset accounting, and managing relationships with investors and regulatory bodies. A strong understanding of treasury, tax structuring, and compliance in crypto was essential, as well as the ability to navigate cross-border financial operations.
Interviewing Stage
Throughout the search, we engaged with senior finance leaders from investment banks, fintechs, and blockchain-native firms, carefully assessing their technical capabilities, leadership style, and cultural fit. After conducting structured interviews and referencing, we presented a shortlist of three highly qualified candidates, each bringing a unique mix of strategic insight and hands-on experience. Negotiations and Offer
Once the preferred candidate was selected, we supported the negotiation of a competitive compensation package, including equity incentives aligned with the company’s long-term goals. Our leadership coaching team also worked closely with the new CFO during their onboarding to ensure a smooth integration and alignment with the broader executive team.
