Assignment Background
The client was a tech start up with a small team of developers working on their product. The founders decided this was the right time to hire a Senior DevOps Engineer who would help streamline the software development process, making it faster and more efficient. The hire would also be able to help with automating repetitive tasks, managing infrastructure, and improving collaboration between development and operations teams.
Briefing
Through detailed discussions with the client we refined the criteria to understand the ideal experience of the ideal candidate, potentially considering remote working in order to enlarge the pool of candidates and also assessed the remuneration options along with requirements of leadership skills on the part of the candidate in order to ensure the team is set up for a long term growth and cooperation. The CTO and CEO of the client company agreed to be part of the assessment process from the get go.
The Search
Sinclair Wright has a wide network of DevOps candidates from previous searches, this being an area of strong expertise in our research team. The initial phase included our researchers networking on relevant Telegram groups, calling our previous candidates and clients to ask for recommendations and gathering a long list of potential candidates. These were subsequently interviewed by our consultants and five candidates was presented to the client.
Offer and Closing
The preferred candidate was offered however as it sometimes happens in a competitive market they accepted an offer from a competitor who was further along the growth path. The successful candidate was one of the initial shortlisted professionals and although they were slightly less experienced, their passion to be part of a start up team from inception made them a great cultural fit as well as a strong contender for the A-team during the founding rounds.
